Monday, July 14: You are probably familiar with\u00a0the movie \u201cGroundhog Day,\u201d in which the main character hopes the following day will be different, but \u00a0instead it’s a\u00a0repetition of the previous one. For us, the date of Nick\u2019s final radiation treatment is \u201ctomorrow,\u201d but the following day, we learn that it is not. \u00a0As I\u2019ve said, Tuesday July 15 was to be Nick’\u2019s\u00a0final day of radiation. And then Wednesday July 16 was. \u00a0 After that, it was to be Friday July 18. My former boss and dear friend, Carole, used to have a quotation\u00a0\u00a0in her office that said, \u201cLord, give me patience, but I want it right now!\u001b\u201d I want radiation to be over right now!<\/p>\n
Tuesday, July 15: When Nick was under the radiation machine, it conked out! The repair person was unable to fix the machine in time for Nick\u00a0to\u00a0get that day\u2019s treatment. Will that mean radiation\u00a0 will continue\u00a0to next Monday?<\/p>\n
Wednesday, July 16: Good news!\u00a0Nick is not on the radiation schedule for next Monday!<\/p>\n
Thursday, July 17: At 9 AM Nick had\u00a0an appointment with Dr. D., the eye specialist who treats \u00a0his glaucoma. He was concerned that all the meds he is now taking might be impacting \u00a0negatively on his eyes. Very good news: his eye pressure is \u00a0good, and in fact, a surgical procedure that he was scheduled to have on one of his eyes has been canceled. Also, he \u00a0brushed his teeth without first rinsing his mouth with his \u201cnumbing cocktail,\u201d and the toothbrush bristles didn’t feel like they were made of wire. He was disappointed, however, that the toothpaste had no taste. I told him to be happy with small steps to recovery!<\/p>\n
Later on Thursday, he had his radiation appointment. The technicians told him that the doctor had changed Monday\u2019s schedule and Nick was now on it. \u00a0No, no, no! Nick is handling this better than I am! So Monday July 21 will be his final day of radiation. It had better not be Groundhog Day again with a change in his final radiation date \u00a0after that!<\/p>\n
