We took a last look at Budapest from the window of the bus. When we arrived, we were greeted by a homemade buffet with antipasti, many salads,\u00a0 baked ziti, hot dogs,\u00a0 spinach patties,\u00a0 and cake, all served al fresco. Nick loves to photograph flowers, so he was happy to find a rose garden in bloom on the property.<\/p>\n<p>On all Rick Steves tours, everyone chooses a \u201cbuddy\u201d on the first day, and we all check to make sure our buddy is present during group activities. This works, except when both buddies are missing, which doesn&#8217;t happen often.\u00a0 After lunch,\u00a0 each of us was to introduce our buddy to the group. I enjoyed interviewing my buddy, a retired educator at the other end of the teaching spectrum (high school and college) from me.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/DSI_1602.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2481\" src=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/DSI_1602-300x81.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"548\" height=\"148\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/DSI_1602-300x81.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/DSI_1602-768x208.jpg 768w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/DSI_1602.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 548px) 100vw, 548px\" \/><\/a>We <a href=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/DSI_1606.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2482 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/DSI_1606-300x146.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"483\" height=\"235\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/DSI_1606-300x146.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/DSI_1606-768x374.jpg 768w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/DSI_1606.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 483px) 100vw, 483px\" \/><\/a>enjoyed being on the bus\u00a0 together, and taking in all the sights we were observing through the windows. We saw a little waterfall\u00a0 adjacent to a residence that was part of a small cluster of houses. Before long, we arrived at\u00a0 <em>Hotel Jazero<\/em> at the entrance to <em>Plitvice Lakes National Park<\/em>, which we would explore the following day. It was time for dinner, and we found the restaurant\u00a0 offered\u00a0 many buffet tables\u00a0 of foods: hot foods, cold foods, chicken, veggies, pasta, and risotto.\u00a0 There was also fruit and cake. In order to get to know more of our travel mates a little better, we tried to eat with different couples each day;\u00a0 this time,\u00a0 our dinner companions were a couple\u00a0 from Washington State.<\/p>\n<p>5,500 steps<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Budapest, Hungary, to Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia This would be a travel day.
