The drawback was that in order to arrive at the airport for an 8 a.m. flight, \u00a0we were on the road at 4 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Carla took an Uber from her NYC apartment at 5 a.m, and the three of us met at the gate by 6:30 a.m. The airport has been in the process of being renovated for several years, and there is definitely more work to be done, but we were impressed by the changes.<!--more--> We hope the food \u00a0will be improved, because most of what was available \u00a0was processed and had little nutritional value.<\/p>\n<p>All three of us nodded off during the \u00a0calm flight. Check-in time at our Airbnb was 4 p.m, so we had to find a place to leave our luggage until that time. Carla and Nick found such a place in the French Quarter, so off we went. After \u00a0photographing and dropping off our luggage, we realized that we were very hungry. <a href=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3795.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-4971 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3795-226x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"162\" height=\"215\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3795-226x300.jpg 226w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3795-768x1020.jpg 768w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3795.jpg 771w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 162px) 100vw, 162px\" \/><\/a><em>Yelp!<\/em> <a href=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3797.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-4970 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3797-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"196\" height=\"295\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3797-200x300.jpg 200w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3797.jpg 683w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 196px) 100vw, 196px\" \/><\/a> recommended a \u00a0restaurant just a few steps away called <em>Zesty Creole<\/em>, and we decided to get right into trying creole food. We noticed that we were the only tourists in the restaurant, and the decor and the menu were different from any we had ever experienced. \u00a0Nick and I shared Crab Cake Eggs Benedict, while Carla ordered an oyster sandwich <a href=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3799.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4968 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3799-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"133\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3799-300x201.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3799-768x515.jpg 768w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3799.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a>called a po&#8217;boy. We were off to a delicious start!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3816.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-4966 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3816-300x187.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" height=\"172\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3816-300x187.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3816-768x479.jpg 768w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3816.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 275px) 100vw, 275px\" \/><\/a>Stepping out from the restaurant and into the French Quarter, we followed the self-guided tour that was in our guide book. Rau.<\/em> We reached it to find that it is closed on Sundays. After more exploring, we returned to retrieve our luggage. Suddenly huge groups of people were walking in the opposite direction from us. It was easy to see that they had attended a football game at \u00a0the Superdome, because they were wearing Saints tee shirts. They were walking without joy or excitement, so we concluded that the Saints had lost the game.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3908.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-4963 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3908-273x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3908-273x300.jpg 273w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3908-768x843.jpg 768w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3908.jpg 933w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 205px) 100vw, 205px\" \/><\/a>We took an Uber to our Airbnb, located a few streets from the Garden District, an area that is known for its variety of historic homes, lavish gardens, and stunning Live Oaks, some with Spanish moss hanging from their branches. Our Airbnb was the first floor of a two family, three bedroom house \u00a0that was very \u00a0comfortable and very quiet. We were ready for dinner, and I found a nearby restaurant called <em>Deanie&#8217;s Sea Food Kitchen<\/em> that sounded just right, and it was. Again, we were the only tourists eating there. Carla ordered shrimp and grits, and Nick and I shared a stuffed flounder. Back at home, my friend Cathy had told me that shrimp and grits in New Orleans was incredibly good, so I tasted Carla&#8217;s dinner. Cathy was so right!
