Two of us are early risers, while two are not. One needed to wear a jacket \u00a0for warmth in the Airbnb \u00a0because it was difficult to regulate the air conditioning, while the others were comfortable in short sleeves. All four of us were adjusting to the change in time zones, but \u00a0three of us had come from the northeast, and one from the west. Nonetheless, at about 10 a.m. all four of us began getting ready for the day, and at 11, we took an Uber to <em>Cafe du Monde<\/em> for beignets.<a href=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/FSC_7650.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5040\" src=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/FSC_7650-300x180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"423\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/FSC_7650-300x180.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/FSC_7650-768x460.jpg 768w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/FSC_7650.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 423px) 100vw, 423px\" \/><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In our experience, zeppole are deep fried balls of dough that are placed in a paper bag \u00a0to which lots of powdered sugar is added. You shake the bag \u00a0so that the zeppole are all thoroughly coated <a href=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3910.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5032 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3910-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3910-300x188.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3910-768x481.jpg 768w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3910.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/IMG_2704.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5041 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/IMG_2704-300x242.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"240\" height=\"194\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/IMG_2704-300x242.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/IMG_2704-768x619.jpg 768w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/IMG_2704.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 240px) 100vw, 240px\" \/><\/a>with powdered sugar, and then eat them while they are hot. Beignets are very similar, except that the dough includes yeast, and they are served on a plate with lots of powdered sugar on top. Very few people leave New Orleans without having eaten beignets. After consuming ours, we \u00a0decided to walk through the neighborhood, which \u00a0was the French Quarter. \u00a0When we approached the Mississippi River, \u00a0we realized that seeing it was a first for all \u00a0four of us. Rau,<\/em> the antiques shop \u00a0in the French Quarter that had been closed on Sunday. We were warmly welcomed by the staff, who encouraged us to see everything on all three floors. We discovered that we were inside \u00a0&#8220;a world-renowned, family-run gallery, founded in 1912, that offers a vast collection of museum-quality fine art, rare 18th- and <a href=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3973.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5037 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3973-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"227\" height=\"151\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3973-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3973-768x512.jpg 768w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3973.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 227px) 100vw, 227px\" \/><\/a>19th-century antiques, and exquisite jewelry, all available for purchase in a sprawling 40,000-square-foot showroom often described as a &#8216;museum with price tags&#8217;.&#8221; In fact, everything was displayed more beautifully there than \u00a0the art \u00a0we have seen in many museums. We noticed that one of the artists whose works were being displayed \u00a0was Claude Pissarro. I asked if Claude was related to the impressionist artist Camille Pissarro, and I was told that Claude was his grandson. I explained that our surname is Pisarro, but unfortunately, we are not related to Camille.<a href=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3937.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5035\" src=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3937-300x231.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"458\" height=\"353\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3937-300x231.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3937-768x590.jpg 768w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3937.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 458px) 100vw, 458px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We didn&#8217;t get to \u00a0to the third floor because everyone was very hungry. The staff recommenced a nearby restaurant called <em>Napoleon House.<\/em> There we all enjoyed typical <a href=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3996.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5038 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3996-233x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"233\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3996-233x300.jpg 233w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3996-768x989.jpg 768w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_3996.jpg 795w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 233px) 100vw, 233px\" \/><\/a>New Orleans foods: \u00a0Nicholas ordered rice and beans, Nick and Carla chose muffuletta salad, and I, a traditional muffuletta sandwich. My muffuletta contained beef, pork, and pastrami, with an olive salad, all on a delicious quarter of a round French-like bread loaf. Afte our meal, \u00a0we needed another walk. <a href=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_4015.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5039 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_4015-300x227.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"266\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_4015-300x227.jpg 300w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_4015-768x582.jpg 768w, http:\/\/pisarro.org\/aboutnick\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/ESE_4015.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 266px) 100vw, 266px\" \/><\/a>We reach <em>Kilwin&#8217;s<\/em>, a sweet shop that has several branches throughout the country. Nick and I had previously enjoyed their ice cream in Sarasota and Port Jefferson Station. Nicholas chose lemon sorbet, Carla, chocolate peanut butter, Nick, something called &#8220;Tracks&#8221; that seemed very similar to chocolate peanut butter. My choice was lemon meringue pie. We chose a restaurant that has a distillery inside it, called, appropriately,\u00a0<em> Lula Restaurant and Distillery<\/em>. Nick chose blackened redfish, Carla, shrimp boil, \u00a0Nicholas, spicy shrimp boil, and I ordered shrimp and grits.
