  • Raptor
  • Drying its wings. This bird doesn't have naturally water repellent feathers, so it must dry itself.
    • Water walking lizard
        • Resting human
        • Caiman watching the human
        • Back in the boat.
        • Fishing
        • Capuchin monkey, like cappuccino, brown body and white on top.
        • We “wandered into” Nicaragua, just north of the border.
              • A howler monkey—the largest monkey species as well as the loudest
              • Spider monkey
              • Kapok tree, used to make life preservers. These trees can be hundreds of years old.
                  • This bird’s wing was bitten by a caiman.
                        • Folded towel in our room.
                        • Our group, waiting for breakfast.
                        • Yum. Rice and beans at every meal, the Costa Rican staple along with plantains.
                          • Morning visit to The Hanging Bridges—a private park. They allow you walk through the rainforest canopy.
                          • Rainforest
                            • 61 feet over the forest floor. 153 feet long…
                                    • Wild philodendron
                                    • Bloodroot tree. Cut into it and it bleeds deep red sap.
                                      • Strangler fig: It starts as an epiphyte, grows down the side of the tree, squeezes it to death, and takes its airspace.
                                          • Real army ants, crossing our path, on a raiding party.
                                          • Leaf cutter ants. These create clearing in the forest by cutting down all the leaves to take to their giant nests. They ferment the leaves to make their food.
                                          • Viper.
