Austin, Texas, Day 5 — Sunday, September 29, 2019

Nick and I ordered breakfast to share: poached eggs on potato cakes, pork belly, jalapeno hollandaise, and sliced tomato. Even with us sharing it, this was such a huge meal  that Nick wanted to return to our room for a nap.

We went to the Bullock Texas State History Museum, which begins with
dinosaur bones and ends in the present day. Nothing was left out in showing how modern Texas came to be. There was also a new exhibit about space exploration.

In the afternoon, Carla had to get ready for her return to New York. Nick and I enjoyed some down time, while Nicholas continued to explore the town. I seldom turn on the TV when we travel, but this time, as I did, I caught my favorite scene from Forrest Gump, Lieutenant Dan saying, “You call this a storm?”

Nicholas loves Asian food, so  after Carla left for her return to New York, we asked the hotel receptionist for a restaurant recommendation. He suggested Lucky Robot. We took an Uber to a part of town that was new to us. Lucky Robot featured really well prepared foods that were served beautifully. We shared edamame and deep fried Brussels sprouts. We love Brussels sprouts, and  they were even more delicious prepared this way. Nick ordered shrimp sushi, and I absolutely loved one of my favorites, soft shell crab.  As for Nicholas, he ordered something called Drunken Whale. I’m not sure what was in it, but he loved it.

Luckily for us, there was an ice cream shop next door. The flavors we chose were Mexican vanilla, peach, and lactose free peanut butter.

I didn’t write the number of steps we took, but I did write that we walked 6.2 miles that day.

  1. Sounds like you are having a great family vacation. Carla and Nicholas look great and you two look so happy being with everyone. Was Austin a place you wanted to visit or do you have family there? Continue to travel and be happy.
